Principles of the Educational Work in the Uni Daycare Centres

Attachment and relationships

Attachment and relationships are a core quality characteristic for us with regard to the care, education and supervision of children. The personal relationship between educational specialists and children is an important foundation for a child’s development, and is for this reason a substantial component of our educational work. A good and sustainable relationship is created through regular companionship, reliability and consistency.

We provide a sense of attachment and belonging in our groups by way of fixed reference persons, rules and rituals. Children will find a family atmosphere in our care as well as a structured daily routine with enough time for free play. Relationships with other children and the adults of the group are close and provide a sense of security.

Our relationship to the children is marked by acceptance, respect and appreciation. This is evident in all everyday situations, such as the acclimatisation phase, during playtime, group meals, during accompaniment while children fall asleep and in bodily hygiene.

Playing / free playtime

Play is of substantial significance for the overall development of a child’s personality. Children bring great interest for their environments and a strong spirit of discovery with them into the world. Playing is the child’s way of interaction with his or her environment, and contributes to the acquisition of social skills as well as the training of all senses. With us, children receive adequate time for undisturbed play. Playtime input is planned and offered by teachers on the basis of observations made and the children’s developmental steps.

With increasing age, the need for attachment and belonging is accompanied by the wish for independence, movement, discovery and experimentation. For this reason, kindergarten-age children in the Zaubergarten uni daycare centre have access to the entire kindergarten as a room for experiences. The gymnasium, hall, garden or workshop may be used by all children, and they offer the children various opportunities to pursue their interests independently and on their own.

Preparation for school is attentively accompanied in the Zaubergarten uni daycare centre. Playtime is also of special importance here, as playing is the appropriate form of learning at the kindergarten age as well, and trains important abilities like emotional stability, social skills, the ability to concentrate, endurance, motivation for an extended period and motor skills, all of which are important later in school.

Observation and Documentation

We observe the developmental stage of each individual child intently. These observations, as well as the documentations made about them, are a foundation of our educational action. The goal is to promote each child according to his or her stage of development and support his or her learning steps.

For each child, we create a portfolio in which we document developmental steps, special skills, preferences and expressions of interest. The portfolio serves as an important foundation for the regular parent talks, during which we discuss the progression and current stage of development of the child.
